Who We Are
The H.M. Sweeny Company is a locally owned and operated wholesale distributor of air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigeration parts and equipment in the DMV metro area.
1946
The company was founded by Mr. Henry M. Sweeny, with its first store opening in Washington, D.C. Over the next thirty years, the company headquarters moved to Landover, and the company opened a second store in Annapolis, MD.
1978
The company was purchased by Mr. Angelos Backus. Under the leadership of Mr. Backus, the company began offering HVAC training classes for those pursuing careers in the industry.
1985
H.M. Sweeny purchased Larson Supply, one of the biggest supply houses in eastern Pennsylvania.
1990
H.M. Sweeny purchased ABC Motors. ABC Motors was one of the oldest and largest motor companies in Washington, D.C. It supplied motors for such structures as the Woodrow Wilson bridge and the Washington Monument elevator.
The company opened its Turnkey Division, which works to provide maintenance service and installation for the multi-family housing industry.
2000
Today, the company operates out of two locations: Landover, MD, and Rockville, MD. We continue to offer our customers quality education and products with a personalized touch. For the owner, managers, and all company members, it is a pleasure to know that our customers feel that there is a warm friendship underlying each business transaction.
